Working out cost per cup for pods
Pods are the easiest format to price and the easiest to get wrong. A capsule is one cup, so cost per cup is simply the pack price divided by the number of capsules — except on Dolce Gusto, where many milk drinks use two pods, so a box of 16 is 8 drinks. Always check whether a box is priced per pod or per drink.
The largest saving available to most pod drinkers is switching from machine-brand capsules to compatible ones, which typically costs 30% to 50% less per cup. Whether that is an option depends entirely on your system — the compatibility guide covers which systems are open and which are closed.
