De'Longhi Rivelia review: two bean hoppers, one grinder

A touchscreen bean-to-cup machine whose second bean hopper finally makes decaf in the evening practical. Reviewers rate its milk; owners have notes on the rest.

Updated 5 October 2026Written by the We Try Coffee team

The De'Longhi Rivelia is the bean-to-cup machine for a household where people drink different things: two 250g bean hoppers swap in seconds, so decaf in the evening or a second coffee for one person no longer means a bypass chute. It is £592 on Amazon at the time of writing (September 2026), against De'Longhi's £749.99 list price. It makes 16 drinks at one touch, including flat white and latte, and Coffee Blog's Kev calls it the best machine he has used for milk texture. Skip it if you like milk drinks very hot, or if you only ever drink one coffee and do not need the second hopper.

Who is the De'Longhi Rivelia for?

A household that wants one-touch milk drinks and drinks more than one coffee. De'Longhi lists a 19 bar pump, two interchangeable 250g bean hoppers, a 1.4 litre tank, a grounds container that holds 10 portions and a 3.5 inch touchscreen with 4 user profiles, at 1,450W, in a body 24.5cm wide, 43cm deep and 38.5cm tall that weighs 9.7kg. The 16 one-touch drinks run from espresso and americano to flat white, cortado and latte macchiato.

Reviewers who have used it rate it highly for the price. Coffee Blog's Kev spent a couple of weeks with it and concluded that De'Longhi had made its best bean-to-cup machine yet. Coffeeness's Arne Preuss calls it 'an extremely intuitive coffee maker that's very easy to use'. Owners on r/superautomatic who chose it over De'Longhi's Magnifica models usually give the second hopper as the reason.

Two things to measure first. The tank is 1.4 litres, smaller than the 1.8 litres on the De'Longhi Magnifica S and the Philips 2300, so it needs filling more often. And the machine is 38.5cm tall with the screen on top: Preuss found that placement frustrating, and owners in a Magnifica vs Rivelia thread joke that you need a giraffe's neck to see it.

Does swapping the bean hoppers actually work?

Yes, with a small cost each time. When you unlock a hopper, the machine goes into switch mode and asks whether to grind away the beans already in the grinder or to use them for one last drink. Kev measured about 9g of beans in the burrs at that point and Preuss about six grams, so you either drink them or bin them. Owners mostly drink them: one swaps to the decaf hopper just before their last caffeinated coffee of the day, so that drink clears the grinder.

There are limits. Switch-mode drinks use whatever is in the burrs, so you cannot pick the strength, and Kev advises grinding away one dose first if your guest must have no caffeine at all. One owner in r/superautomatic found the Bean Adapt settings saved for a bean do not follow the hopper automatically: the machine asks you to check the grind ring each time. Coffeeness sums it up as a great alternative to other machines with two hoppers, but still inferior to one with two grinders, which Kev notes is a far more expensive approach.

How good are the milk drinks?

Very good in texture, and not very hot. Kev says the LatteCrema Hot carafe produces real microfoam, which surprised him because one-touch carafes usually make stiff foam, and he calls it the best machine he has used for milk texture. Preuss found his latte and cappuccino 'fluffy, frothy, creamy and delicious' once he worked out that the carafe's spout pulls out and bends towards the cup.

Temperature is where they differ. Kev measured every milk drink at 61 to 62°C, which he likes and says some people will call lukewarm. Preuss measured about 70°C. If you want your cappuccino too hot to sip, Kev's advice is a machine with a steam wand instead.

Not every owner prefers the carafe. One r/superautomatic owner returned the carafe version for the Rivelia with a manual frother, for more control over the foam. Another owner, whose wife drinks only oat milk, bought a second carafe and swaps them.

How good is the espresso?

Among the best from a bean-to-cup machine, by Kev's account: he found it slightly better than he remembers from the Magnifica range, and managed to choke it at grind setting 3 with a medium-dark roast, which he rarely does on bean-to-cup machines. Preuss found it lively, sweet and chocolatey, with decaf just as full-bodied.

Kev weighed the dose at each of the five strengths: about 5g, 7g, 8g, 9g and 10g. The double espresso is a true double, grinding and brewing twice, which most of De'Longhi's cheaper machines do not do. Bean Adapt asks about the bean (arabica or robusta blend, roast level) and suggests a brew temperature and grind; De'Longhi's manual says it works for espresso only and stores up to 6 bean profiles.

How many grind settings there are depends on who counted: Preuss says 13, Kev 14, and De'Longhi does not publish a figure. Preuss's starting point is 5 for very fresh beans and 3 for rested ones or lighter roasts. As on the Magnifica S, the manual says to turn the ring only while the grinder is running, and rules out caramelised or candied beans.

What do owners complain about?

One fault on early machines, and some ergonomics. The fault is a false 'empty grounds container and drip tray' alarm that keeps coming back after you empty both. Several owners describe it in one r/superautomatic thread, and one links De'Longhi's own technical bulletin, which says a weak part on the grounds container could break on every Rivelia made before 15 June 2024, and that a strengthened container fixes it. Owners who got the replacement say it worked. If you buy one, check the build date, and if it happens, ask for the new container under warranty.

  • The screen faces up. Preuss and several owners would like it angled towards the user.
  • Swapping hoppers wastes or repurposes about one dose each time, as above.
  • Descaling wants a 1.5 litre container under the spouts, according to the manual, which owners struggle to balance on the drip tray; they use a bread pan, a baking tin or the edge of the sink.
  • The grinder is not quiet: Preuss measured 66dB and found the sound grating, because the removable hopper leaves little room for insulation.

Against that, the heavy users are happy. One owner's counter had passed 5,089 coffees, another has used theirs daily for over a year, and another had a display problem replaced early in two years of use. A handful of new owners report machines that went wrong within weeks; most were returned or repaired under warranty, though one Australian owner says De'Longhi stopped replying.

What does it take to keep clean?

Less than the touchscreen suggests. After a milk drink, the machine prompts you to turn the carafe dial to Clean, which runs hot water and steam through the spout. De'Longhi's manual says the LatteCrema Hot carafe can then go in the fridge for up to 2 days before it needs taking apart and washing, ideally in the dishwasher. Preuss praises the symbols that mark which parts can go in the dishwasher, and one owner says the carafe comes apart to go straight in.

Once a month, the brewing unit comes out of the side for a 5 minute soak in cold water and a rinse, with no detergent, the same routine as the Magnifica S. Descaling takes about 30 minutes when the machine asks, using De'Longhi's descaler only, at 100ml a time.

What does a year of coffee cost through it?

About £460 in beans at two drinks a day, priced on an 18g dose at the 63p median of the 812 whole bean coffees we track: 730 drinks at 63p is £459.90. On Kev's dose figures, a single drink uses 5g to 10g, which is 18p to 35p of median beans, while a true double at strength 4 uses about 18g and costs the full 63p.

Coffee-shop flat white at £3.50£3.50£0£2,555.00
Coffee-shop flat white at £4£4.00£0£2,920.00

Against a £3.50 flat white, each drink at home saves about £2.87 in coffee, so the £592 machine has paid for itself after about 207 drinks, roughly 15 weeks at two a day. That is before milk, which the café price includes.

If you keep decaf in the second hopper, you are buying two bags at once, which is worth doing in bigger sizes. Our decaf comparison prices whole bean and ground decaf per cup.

What are the alternatives?

If you only drink one coffee and mostly have cappuccinos, the Philips Series 2300 LatteGo is £369 on Amazon at the time of writing. It has three drinks rather than 16 and a milder shot, but its two-part LatteGo jug is the easiest milk system to clean.

If you drink espresso and black coffee and are happy to steam milk by hand, the De'Longhi Magnifica S is £290.82 and shares the Rivelia's monthly brew unit routine.

What warranty do you get in the UK?

De'Longhi's UK product page includes a 2 year warranty, and De'Longhi UK says all of its coffee machines carry a minimum 2 year guarantee from the date of purchase. Separately, GOV.UK's guidance says a seller must repair or replace a faulty item returned within six months unless it can prove the fault was not there when you bought it, and that you have up to six years to claim (five in Scotland). The grounds container fault is covered by De'Longhi's own bulletin, which helps if you need to claim.

Questions people ask

Is the De'Longhi Rivelia worth it?

Yes, if two people in your home drink different coffees or one of you drinks decaf. The De'Longhi Rivelia has two swappable 250g bean hoppers, 16 one-touch drinks and four user profiles, and Coffee Blog's Kev calls it the best machine he has used for milk texture. If you only drink one coffee, a cheaper machine does the same job.

How do you switch beans on the De'Longhi Rivelia?

Unlock the hopper and the De'Longhi Rivelia goes into switch mode. It asks whether to grind away the beans already in the grinder or use them for one last drink; Coffee Blog measured about 9g left in the burrs. Then fit the other hopper. Owners often swap just before their last drink of one coffee so nothing is wasted.

How hot are milk drinks from the De'Longhi Rivelia?

Warm rather than scalding. Coffee Blog measured De'Longhi Rivelia milk drinks at 61 to 62°C, and Coffeeness measured about 70°C. Kev at Coffee Blog thinks 60 to 65°C is ideal, but says people who like very hot drinks may call it lukewarm and would be better served by a machine with a steam wand.

Why does my De'Longhi Rivelia keep asking me to empty the grounds container?

On machines made before 15 June 2024, it may be a broken part. De'Longhi's technical bulletin TBDL_24015_A says a weak actuator on the De'Longhi Rivelia grounds container can break and trigger a false 'empty grounds container and drip tray' alarm, and that a strengthened container fixes it. Owners who received the replacement report the alarm stopped.

How often do you clean the De'Longhi Rivelia?

Run the carafe's Clean cycle after milk drinks, wash the carafe in full at least every 2 days, and take out the brewing unit for a soak and rinse at least once a month, according to De'Longhi's manual for the Rivelia. Descaling takes about 30 minutes whenever the machine asks, using De'Longhi's own descaler.
